Cock & Hoop

The Cock and Hoop dates back to the 1800s with history linking the pub to the National Justice Museum over the road...

Originally a public house with rooms, barristers would book the rooms to view the public hangings across the road. Now in the 21st century, the pub is a wonderfully traditional, with rotating real ales, a growing craft selection and top notch pub food.

It’s located straight over the road from the National Justice Museum and is the resident bar of the Lace Market Hotel, one of the best places to stay in the city. Events, meetings and weddings all take place in the pub, with live music and a private room. Dogs are also very welcome.

  • Crosswords Open Mic at The Cock and Hoop

    Wednesday 13 March 2019 19:30 - 22:30

Crosswords is a fab little Nottingham-based spoken word open mic night with plenty of open mic slots and a featured poet every month! In March, we're really excited to welcome Amy Kinsman as our guest poet!

Amy Kinsman (they/them) is a poet from Manchester. As well as being founding editor of Riggwelter Press and associate editor of Three Drops From A Cauldron, they are also the former host of Gorilla Poetry. Their debut pamphlet & was joint-winner of the Indigo Dreams Pamphlet Prize 2017.

Arrive at the Cock and Hoop from 7:30pm on the night to put your name in the hat for a short open mic slot. We like poetry, prose, storytelling, a cappella singing, and monologues! Or you can just come along to listen – everyone's welcome! Entry is £2 per person and refreshments are available.

NB: There are eleven steps to access this venue.
