Barley Twist

A two-floor craft beer and wine cellar located between Broadmarsh Centre and Nottingham train station, Barley Twist is a Castle Rock owned establishment with an outstanding selection of beers...

Set in an old sweet shop, it has since been converted into a dimly lit atmospheric space with exposed brick and fairy lights. The upstairs is a one-room bar with high ceilings while downstairs is a large stripped-back cellar.

Beer isn’t the only thing on the menu here; Barley Twist stock around 75 wines from all over the world. However, the beer selection is expansive with a few fridges full of packaged beer and constantly changing craft taps.

  • Duration's Bedrock Launch at Barley Twist

    Thursday 12 December 2019

The Bedrock Launch will showcase the first ‘home’ beers from Duration’s recently commissioned brewhouse in Norfolk. Taking place nationally across brewery taprooms, beer bars and bottle shops on Thursday 12th December. We’re very excited to add the Barley Twist to that list.

Raise a glass to the future with Duration’s opening releases; a Table Pale, an American Pale, and an IPA.

About Duration & the Bedrock Launch

Duration journey began in the summer of 2017 with a video of their idea and a string of impressive collaboration brews with the likes of Cloudwater, Verdant, Deya, Gipsy Hill, Burning Sky and North. In 2018 head brewer Bates released Duration’s first few own beers brewed at Amundsen’s in Oslo (as they also have a BrauKon) and later at Cloudwater who offered up their kit tanks to enable Duration to pour at the Manchester giant’s inaugural beer festival Friends & Family & Beer.

After a year in planning and a year delivering the project Duration are now brewing in house as intended, in a custom renovated medieval barn at West Acre Priory. Focused on a keen sense of place Duration have built a high efficiency, sustainable brewery with a water treatment plant at Abbey Farm in rural West Norfolk. Wild ales and fresh beers brewed form nature with purpose to showcase how harmoniously brewing and agriculture can exist in tandem. The Bedrock Launch (along with blog series of the same name) follows Duration’s journey to find a home and how a keen sense of place informs all that they do. You can read about the bedrock upon which Duration is built in the 4 part blog here.

Elements of Water, Wood, Metal and Stone reveal the pioneering technology built into Duration’s foundations to stay true to the ethos of ‘beers that belong’.

Beyond the amazing back-story to the brewery, founders Miranda Hudson and Derek ‘Bates’ hope you come out to raise a glass the their venture on Thursday 12th Dec supporting you local beer merchant and have partnered with some of the finest independent retailers up and down the country to present their opening beers.
